School Counselors are professional eduators who promote and enhance the learning process. Our goal is to enable all students to achieve success in school and become contributing members of their communities.  School Counselors help students develop their strengths by teaching academic, personal/social and career exploration/developmental skills. This is accomplished through direct services to students and through consultation with teachers, parents and administrators.

As the counselor here at Frost my main role is to provide direct services to the students and indirect services to the teachers and parents. I provide and coordinate classroom guidance lessons as well as individual and groups sessions on social skills, bullying, study skills, self-esteem, happiness, conflict resolution, test anxiety, family changes, grief therapy, safety and health concerns. Guidance groups are coordinated in the fall and spring and are based on the needs of the students and recommendations by parents and or school staff. Common group themes are anger management, family changes, self-esteem, conflict resolution, making and keeping friends. Groups meet on a weekly basis and run for approximately 8 weeks. Parental permission is required for students to attend weekly group meetings. If you are interested in having your child participate in group sessions, please contact the Ms. Schnarr at the above listed contacts.

In addition to the guidance lessons and guidance groups, I am also working with a small group of students this year who will be apart of our Peer Mediation team. There is a link on the side of this page for more information about our Peer Mediation Program.

School Counselors also lead the Child Study team consists of a team that collaboratively works with teachers, parents and students when there is a great concern for academic and/or behavioral growth. If you are having concerns for your child please discuss your concerns with the classroom teacher and together interventions will be devleoped before any testing takes place or is considered.

Frost is very excited to have been chosen to implement the PBS Program into our school this year. PBS, or Positive Behavioral Support Program, will be slowly implemented throughout the upcoming year. Brochures explaining the program have been sent home with the first day packet for students. Further information is available through the PBS link to the left of the screen.
